Remembrance Day

Hello Parents and greater Copperfield Community,

Our grade 4 students are busy planning this year’s assembly for Remembrance Day that will take place on November 9th around 10:30 am.  We are preparing some heartfelt and special tributes to the brave Canadians who are serving or who have served our wonderful country in the armed forces.

We are wondering if you or a relative, who have been impacted by conflicts (World War One, Two, or the many other conflicts in the world) would be willing to share your experiences about war with our school during the assembly?   In the past we have had Veterans of the Korean War and Afghanistan share memories and photos so that our young learners better understand Remembrance Day and honor our heroes.  We are looking for a person to speak, share during our Assembly for about 10 minutes (more or less).  If you know someone (Grandfather, Grandmother, parents, siblings, other relatives, neighbour) or you might be interested please contact Kathleen Ross by emailing kaross@cbe.ab.ca or call the school.  We can touch base and plan to include you in our ceremony.
Secondly, our grade four students will work with their teachers to compile a slideshow of our personal heroes who sacrificed for our freedoms and we would like to include information about our greater community as well.  If you have any information you would like to share about a family member or someone close to you who has been a hero to our country, please reply to this email with a photo (if possible), full name of Veteran, Copperfield student’s name and grade, and the information/story/reason he/she is a hero, you would like to share. Please share information you would feel comfortable having shared at the school’s assembly.   If you have any questions please let me know and I will be more than happy.
  • Veteran’s Name:
  • Copperfield student’s name (and relation to Veteran):
  • Conflict served in and year(s) of service:
  • Information/Story/Memory/Reason he/she is a hero:

Thank you so much,
Kathleen Ross and the Grade Four Teaching Team
